Renée Marie Petropoulos
Renée Marie Petropoulos is a queer filmmaker based in Sydney, on Gadigal land. She holds an MFA from Columbia University.
Her short films have screened at festivals including the Berlin International Film Festival and SXSW, and her work has received nominations from the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) and the Australian Directors' Guild (ADG). Her short Tangles and Knots (2017), produced by Yingna Lu, screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, SXSW and the Melbourne and Sydney film festivals. Souvenir, a further collaboration with Lu, won the Narrative Short Film Jury Award at SXSW in 2026.
Alongside her directing work, Petropoulos works as a script coordinator in the Australian screen industry, with credits including the Disney+ series The Artful Dodger. She is developing several feature projects, among them Keep Walking, supported by Screen NSW's Short to Feature Fast Track initiative. Her work centres on queer and female-driven stories.
